Sparkling Berry & Cardamom Mocktail Recipe

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 12–15 minutes

Servings: Approximately 4–6 drinks

Dietary: Dairy-Free | Gluten-Free | Vegan

Ingredients

For the Berry Cardamom Concentrate:

  • 2 cups mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, or blackberries; fresh or frozen)

  • 1–2 tablespoons pure maple syrup or honey (optional, adjust to taste)

  • ¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice

  • ¼ cup water

  • 4–5 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed

  • ½ teaspoon fresh lemon zest (optional)

For Each Mocktail:

  • 2–3 tablespoons berry cardamom concentrate

  • 6–8 oz chilled sparkling water

  • Ice cubes

  • Fresh berries for garnish

  • Fresh rosemary, mint, or basil

  • Lemon slices

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Berries

In a small saucepan, combine the mixed berries, water, crushed cardamom pods, and optional sweetener.

Heat over medium-low heat for approximately 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Gently mash the berries as they soften to release their natural juices.

Step 2: Add the Citrus

Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.

Remove the cardamom pods, then stir in the fresh lemon juice and optional lemon zest.

Step 3: Strain or Keep the Pulp

For a smooth mocktail, strain the berry mixture through a fine-mesh strainer.

Prefer a little texture? Keep some of the berry pulp for additional fiber.

Step 4: Build Your Mocktail

Fill a tall glass with ice. Add 2–3 tablespoons of the berry concentrate.

Slowly pour in the sparkling water and stir gently.

Step 5: Garnish and Enjoy

Add a few fresh berries, a lemon slice, and a sprig of rosemary or mint.

Serve immediately!

Why These Ingredients Deserve a Place in Your Wellness Routine

1. Berries: Small Fruits, Big Nutritional Benefits

Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries contain polyphenols, including anthocyanins, which give many berries their beautiful red, blue, and purple colors.

These plant compounds are studied for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Berries also contribute fiber and vitamin C to a balanced diet.

2. Cardamom: Flavor Without Extra Sugar

Cardamom is a fragrant spice commonly used in sweet and savory recipes.

Its naturally warm, citrusy flavor adds complexity without requiring additional sugar. Although cardamom contains plant compounds being studied for potential health benefits, the small amount used in a mocktail is best appreciated for its flavor rather than as a therapeutic ingredient.

3. Fresh Lemon: Bright Flavor and Vitamin C

Fresh lemon juice provides acidity, a little vitamin C, and a refreshing contrast to the sweetness of the berries.

4. Sparkling Water: Hydration with a Twist

Unsweetened sparkling water offers a refreshing way to contribute to your daily fluid intake without the added sugars found in many soft drinks.

Make It Your Own

Lower-Sugar Version: Skip the maple syrup or honey and use naturally sweet, ripe strawberries and blueberries.

Extra Citrus: Add a splash of freshly squeezed orange juice.

Herbal Twist: Garnish with rosemary for an earthy aroma or mint for a cooling finish.

Holiday Version: Add a cinnamon stick to the simmering berries and garnish with rosemary and fresh cranberries.

Summer Version: Use strawberries and raspberries with fresh basil and plenty of ice.
